What is Biodanza?
It is a system of Human Integration, through music and movement.
It uses a wide range of inspirational music from around the world, specially
chosen for its beneficial impact on the human body.
Biodanza is a harmonious and gentle system which helps us to connect deeply with
life,
with our own desires and enables us to put our dreams into action.
What can I expect at a Biodanza Class?
A beginner’s class consists of dances and exercises which are chosen
to promote and enhance our vitality and creativity.
What are the benefits of Biodanza?
Attending a regular weekly class of Biodanza improves health and well being
by reducing stress and anxiety, and increasing confidence and self-esteem.
Who can it help?
Biodanza is for EVERYBODY! No previous dance experience is required and students
work within their own physical capabilities in the class.
Please note: Kathleen Nathanael is a student under the supervision of Patricia Martello, Director of the Rolando Toro School of Biodanza in London. She is also the Student Representative of the Association of Biodanza Teachers in the UK (ABTUK).
My journey into Biodanza – Kathleen’s Story
I first heard of Biodanza when I was at a Reflexology workshop. My tutor
was talking about a dance class called Biodanza which she said was about
connecting with the joy of life through the rhythm of the music.
It sounded great to me, something I’d been seeking for a long time;
so I took the details and forgot about it.
Later, I again heard that word Biodanza – but
what was it?
There was a local class about 45 minutes from where I lived on a Friday evening.
Too far away I thought, too tired on a Friday evening and again I forgot
about it.
Then one Saturday morning I was talking with a friend on the telephone and I asked her what she had planned for the weekend. “ I’m going to a Biodanza workshop” she said…. Ah! I thought that’s it - I’m going too.
Well to cut a long story short I was hooked. After my first session I felt
uplifted, elated, and joyful. I was amazed to find myself on Monday morning
bouncing along the corridor at work, smiling and singing to myself. Believe
me this was not normal behaviour for me!
So I started to go regularly to the Rolando Toro School of Biodanza in
London and from there my life changed rapidly. I met my soul mate Martin
and to cut to the chase, as it were, we got married in June 2004.
I’m not saying your life will change quite so dramatically as mine (or in the same way) by doing Biodanza; all I’m saying is it changed my life for the better in many ways.
The History and background of Biodanza
There is a whole body of Biological, Physiological and Psychological evidence
which supports and explains the benefits and methods of Biodanza. It has
been developed and refined over the past 40 years and continues to be expanded.
There are Schools of Biodanza in every continent, and classes in a multitude
of countries.
Rolando Toro is a vital and inspirational teacher who at 80 is still working and teaching this wonderful system across the world. He hopes to have the whole planet dancing! Who can doubt him? From a small group in his front room in Chile in the 1960’s to a global network of interconnected teachers and schools working to develop and support his aim , “the Biocentric Principle” of putting life first and at the heart of everything.
